No more congestion

1. Check the buffer size of the queue and channel load to detect whether there is any congestion in the network. If there is no congestion in the network normal transmission is carried on.

2. If congestion is detected, three congestion avoiding mechanisms are invoked to avoid the congestion.

3. The three congestion avoiding techniques are

a. Sending a quench signal

b. Multi source regulation

c. Monitoring inter frame spacing

4. In the first technique if there is any congestion in any node, it sends a quench signal to its source node as a request to reduce its data rate. This quench signal thus traverses back hop by hop until it reaches the source node till the congestion is reduced. This technique reduces the overall data rate of the network, which in turn avoids the network congestion.

5. In the third technique, the collision status of the network is monitored using a variable “colstat”, for monitoring and avoiding the collision in the network, values are assigned to colstat depending on the collision status of the network.

6. If there is no collision in the network then the packets is transmitted using normal DIFS (Distributed Coordinated Function Inter Frame Spacing) technique, if there is collision in the network then PIFS (Point Coordinated Function Inter Frame Spacing) technique is invoked for packet transmission which controls the entire transmissions in the network, thus avoiding the collision.
